This bakery, in the town of Rylstone in the New South Wales Central West, built in 1926 still uses the original wood-fired oven (about five times as efficient as a modern electric oven). All our products, bread, pies, sausage rolls and pastries are baked in the original wood-fired oven.
Needless to say we have a range of artisan products all of which are produced on the premises.
Since buying the business over three years ago we have concentrated on developing a range of breads and pastries which reflect the bakery’s wood-fired heritage. We are known far and wide for our range of traditional loaves and preservative free breads and pastries.
We use our own breads to make our famous sandwiches and we recently started using the wood-fired oven to make a very special pizza.
The current business reflects a growing local trade and seems to strike a chord with an increasing number of people seeking traditional products and values.
Rylstone is situated on the edge of the Mudgee wine growing and tourist area and is at the head of the Bylong Valley, the scenic tourist route to the top of the famous Hunter Valley region.
Our bakery epitomises the saying “if you’re going for a drive – go through Rylstone”. More and more people are doing so and our passing trade has grown rapidly as people discover the Bylong Valley Way, to the Hunter Valley and further north. Rylstone is becoming a fascinating stop-over, and the wood-fired bakery is just one of the reasons.
Why are we selling? Simply put, my health isn’t good enough to do the business justice. This is an ideal family business – husband and wife/partner enterprise.
It has low overheads and would appeal to a baker who enjoys the creative aspects of the business and whose focus is on quality products that “you just can’t get at the supermarket”.
